Some great news for open space enthusiasts as a sprawling redwood forest north of San Francisco will likely be protected in perpetuity. Save the Redwood League bought easement land surrounding the 15,000-acre property to help preserve as many of these towering NorCal tree treasures as possible.
Knock on wood, but it appears San Francisco is taking the first tentative steps back to normalcy. With COVID cases plummeting across the state, indoor dining, movies, and museums in the city could start to reopen at reduced capacity as soon as this week. It can’t happen soon enough.
San Francisco lost an icon of its past with the recent death of renowned beat poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti at the age of 101. Supporters and admirers of the longtime City Lights bookstore founder and owner gathered in, appropriately enough, Jack Kerouac Alley, to pay their respects to the legendary contemporary of Kerouac, Ginsberg, and the like. Oakland-based Truffle Shuffle has been a hit since it started offering weekly live cooking classes last year. Founded by a group of alums from Napa’s legendary French Laundry restaurant, the operation has been such a hit they recently enlisted rapper Snoop Dog to guide viewers through a class on making wild mushroom fettuccine alfredo.
