Community Giving Fund & Compass Cares donate over $70,000

We are pleased to announce the 12 remarkable charity beneficiaries receiving grants from the Community Giving Fund, in cooperation with Compass Cares, in 2020.

“We are in the people business,” Mark McLaughlin said. “If we don’t get the people right, nothing else matters.  This is core to our beliefs and extends to charitable giving to families and communities we serve. We have the gift to give back to our communities.”

These organizations are devoted to helping those in our Southern California community, and we are proud to be a part of their vital efforts.

“Real estate gives us the chance to build our communities together,” Cassandra Petersen, chair of the Community Giving Fund, said. “Merging the energy and generous spirit from the Community Giving Fund into Compass Cares will continue to uplift our communities in 2020. I am truly looking forward to another wonderful year of giving.”

This week, the Community Giving Fund and Compass Cares will offer grants totaling more than $70,000 to the following Los Angeles area organizations:

Topanga Women’s Circle

TWC is an organization of volunteer women who help the neediest of families by furnishing their new housing with the little necessities we take for granted. By providing new and like-new items, we help create an environment of comfort, warmth and dignity.

Southeast Community Foundation

Located in Vernon, California, SEC is dedicated to advancing the education of promising students who have limited financial means.

Judy Fund Alzheimer’s Research and Care

Once just a vision, The Judy Fund has evolved into a movement dedicated to eliminating Alzheimer’s disease.

USC Verdugo Hills Hospital Foundation

The USC Verdugo Hills Hospital Foundation raises and manages funds to help the hospital meet the health care needs of our local communities and beyond. Our work ensures that everyone who comes to USC Verdugo Hills Hospital receives patient-centered care in a compassionate and comforting environment that allows patients and their families to heal and thrive.

True Colors

True Colors United implements innovative solutions to youth homelessness that focus on the unique experiences of LGBTQ young people.

The Heart Touch Project

The Heart Touch Project brings compassionate, therapeutic touch to medically fragile and terminally ill individuals improving the lives for them, their families and their caregivers.

Optimist Youth Home & Family Services

Optimist Youth Homes & Family Services is a (501-C-3) charitable non-profit organization established in 1906 and chartered in 1934, whose mission is to provide innovative and individualized treatment, education and support services to children, young adults, and families to better their lives. It is the largest provider of residential services to Probation youth in the state of California.

PATH (People Assisting The Homeless)

PATH is ending homelessness for individuals, families, and communities. We do this by building affordable housing and providing supportive services throughout California.

Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services

The nation’s first, Didi Hirsch’s Suicide Prevention Center was founded in 1958 to study suicide’s causes and remedies. A model for suicide prevention centers across the globe, our Suicide Prevention Center is a national resource for healing and hope. It provides crisis services, therapy, support, training and education.

MAPS

MAPS Charities was born from a need to reach out and help a senior population almost completely overlooked. The charity focuses on disadvantaged seniors and their families. It reaches into the community for resources and services unique to eldercare. 

Project Angel Food

Project Angel Food is the loving neighbor who knows that food is medicine, food is love, and food nourishes the soul. We believe no one fighting critical illness should go hungry, which is why we personally deliver, with care and compassion, free medically-tailored meals, handmade with healthy ingredients to those in our community who are hungry and alone.

HoldYou Foundation

The mission of HoldYou Foundation is to provide financial assistance to families in need who have a child facing a critical illness or injury; to hold the parents’ financial burdens so they can devote time to the care of their child.
